Ruti Abramovitch

Some music disappears not because it failed, but because history moved on without it. Ruti Abramovitch is drawn to those pieces — overlooked works of genuine beauty — and bringing them back to the light is among the deepest pleasures music gives her.

She first encountered Gabriel Dupont's La maison dans les dunes and felt, from the opening bars, that she already knew it — its particular mixture of Impressionist color and Romantic depth, something poetic and haunting beneath the surface. That instinct became this recording.

Dupont wrote these ten pieces while convalescing from tuberculosis on the Atlantic dunes, and they have been largely unheard since his death at 36. A contemporary of Ravel, he preceded him in the 1901 Prix de Rome and left behind two major piano works. This is one of them.

“Her sensitive touch, sense of line, ability to summon tone colours honors the music and caresses the ears”

- Peter Jacobi, Bloomington Herald Times.

First-prize winner of the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale and the Indiana University Concerto Competition, Abramovitch holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Indiana University, where she studied with Menahem Pressler and wrote her doctoral research on Ravel's Miroirs — years spent inside the exact musical world that Dupont inhabited. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Israel, and Italy, with appearances at the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago — broadcast on WFMT — the PianoForte Salon Series, and La Maison Française at the Embassy of France in Washington, DC through Villa Albertine. As a chamber musician she has collaborated with musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera of Chicago in programs ranging from the Ravel Piano Trio to sonatas by Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, and Fauré.

She relocated to Washington, DC to pursue a more active performance life. She is currently at work on a new program, Voices of Legend.
